Blue Training

Monday was Day 1 after acquisition of the company I work for by IBM. Now we’re a wholly owned subsidiary of IBM. Transfer of employment and transfer of trade are tentatively on 1st May and 1st August 2007 respectively. Yesterday, we all got our nifty new IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T60p’s and IBM employee badges.

Nice toys to play with no doubt but unfortunately, there’s a standing order not to switch on the notebook until we’ve received our formal training in its usage. Considering how strongly they stressed the point of NOT switching it on, I’m wondering what will happen if I did. It’s kinda like me putting up this big red button that says “DO NOT CLICK“. Sometimes… just sometimes… you’re tempted to…

DO NOT CLICK!
- DO NOT CLICK! -

Anyway, I’m scheduled to be ‘trained’ tomorrow (Thursday). I really don’t know what to expect.

The ThinkPad comes with Windows XP Professional SP2 installed. As far as Operating System (OS) is concerned, the only thing that you really need to know about Microsoft products is where the Ctrl, Alt, and Del keys are located. Seeing as it’s a notebook keyboard, I can see where there might be some confusion on the matter but training? Maybe IBM ThinkPads come with alternative button locations…

Ctrl+Alt+Del
- Ctrl + Alt + Del (Alternatives?)-

What else do you think they’ll be teaching us? We’ll find out for sure tomorrow. But until then…
