Last weekend, WL and I finally managed to bring back our Father’s Day gift for my dad. By my calendar, we were 2 weeks late. I suppose it’s the thought that counts.

In previous months, I’ve made known my intentions to purchase a car for my dad. He in turn had dropped hints that he preferred a Toyota Avanza 1.5. So after paying the showroom several visits, scratching our heads on the finances, and punching a hole through the calculator, we finally placed an order for an Avanza early in the month. We did it without my dad’s knowledge and were going to give him a secret surprise.

Fast forward a month, the car finally arrived and was ready for collection. We presented it to him on Saturday and he took us out for a spin. I asked him later if he was happy with the gift. “Of course happy got new car to drive!“, was his simple answer. The look on his face as he test drove earlier and the sheepish grin he flashed with that answer is worth every penny spent.

I’ve taken over my dad’s old car and WL’s currently using my old jalopy. As for my dad, he’s getting used to his Father’s Day gift and slowly breaking it in.
